Hindun Anisah is a leader of the Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah Hasyim Asy’ari Islamic Boarding School, Bangsri, Jepara, Central Java. Together with female activist friends in Jepara, Hindun has also established an inclusive school called Sekolah Semai since 2010, where children with disabilities study together with non-disabled children. Hindun is Chairperson of the Association of Girls’ Islamic Boarding School Leaders and Female Preachers (JP3M). She is currently Secretary of the Pondok Pesantren Islamic Boarding School Associaton with the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (RMI PBNU) and is heavily involved in the Indonesian Women’s Ulama Congress (KUPI) network where she is a Member of the KUPI Advisory Council. The second KUPI Congress was hosted at Hindun’s Islamic Boarding School in 2022, and she served as Steering Committee Secretary for the first KUPI Congress in 2017.
